Maryland Transportation Authority —
Intelligent Transportation Systems Design Services

Project Overview: The Maryland Transportation Authority (MTA) developed an ITS system to operate and improve the MTA’s electronic toll collection system. The ITS included traffic monitoring cameras, incident detection equipment, electronic Dynamic Message Signs, etc. on the MTA maintained facilities including major Maryland bridges, the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Thruway, Fort McHenry Tunnel and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway.

In support of design services for the MTA ITS project, served as communications expert responsible for the network evaluation and integration for the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system and for the design of an incident detection system for the Baltimore Harbor and Ft. McHenry tunnels.

• Conducted site review of bridges to verify as-built conditions, communications network infrastructure
  
  
• Investigated fiber, wireless, T1 options, CHART connection to provide data connectivity to the camera locations
  
  
• Ensured communications solutions and head end system design were consistent to specifications and that new specifications functioned as a complete system
