Boeing-Lead System Integrator
Scalable Mobile Demonstration
Project Overview: The Scalable Mobile
Network (SMN) Demonstration was part of the Future Combat
System Concept Technology Demonstration Program. As
the Lead System Integrator, Boeing/SAIC developed the
architecture for the FCS. The FCS was envisioned as
a networked system of systems including manned and unmanned
platforms that would be capable of conducting missions
for assault, indirect fires, air defense, reconnaissance,
surveillance and target acquisition, and battle command
and communications.
CenGen support to
the Boeing Network Communications team included:
- Engineering
tests, data collection and logistical support
- Validation and
verification activities
- Technical inputs
- Support planning,
coordination, refinement and conducting of dry runs
and the formal run of the SMN Demonstration scenarios
- Frequency clearances
acquisition
- Integration
of the FCS-C assets into the SMN Demo scenarios
- Characterize
the electromagnetic environment
- Test and characterize
(range testing) VRC-99, SUO/SAS, WJR and FCS-C radio
connectivity on the actual test range
- Support establishment
of network topologies
- Definition of
out of band link to VIP area
- Support concepts
and staging for the VIP viewing area
- Support post
demonstration mission assessment
